Due to the ever-stringent emission standards, manufacturers are increasingly choosing to use digitally controlled high pressure common rail fuel injection systems. However, this causes the diesel temperature to be significantly higher. This can cause problems, especially in marine applications where the fuel tanks are in a confined space with little or no air flow to prevent heat build-up.
Excess heat in the fuel tanks can be dangerous and in addition, you lose a considerable amount of power because the engine needs to use hot fuel. To remedy these problems, a seawater cooled fuel cooler should be installed in the low pressure return line to the fuel tank to remove heat build-up.
Our fuel coolers are manufactured from 90/10 cupronickel. This is a highly corrosion resistant material that can be used without problems in areas with rough sea water.
